- Datang Telecom and Taiwan's ITRI (Industrial Technology Research Institute) signed a letter of intent on June 4, whereby both parties will collaborate in the deployment of a trial network based on China's TD-SCDMA (Time Division-Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access) technology in Taiwan, the Sohu IT News reported on June 9. Under the agreement, Taiwanese telecom operators Far EasTone Telecom and Vibo will be in charge of setting up the trial network, which boasts to help Taiwanese makers reduce costs by 20% as the network will also be regarded as a testing network to help verify TD-SCDMA devices in Taiwan before shipping to China. Moreover, ITRI stated that it also plans to establish a test network based on TD-LTE (TD-Long Term Evolution), a TDD (Time Division Duplex) version of LTE, which is slated for completion in 2011.

- On June 10 China Unicom announced that the company is set to spend 40 billion RMB (US$5.89 billion; US$1= 6.8 RMB) over the next five years in Henan province, China, the SinoCast Daily Business reported on June 11. According to its plan, China Unicom will expand and strengthen its WCDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access) and broadband networks in the province with support from the government of Henan province. In 2009, China Unicom has invested three billion RMB (US$441.2 million) into the deployment of 1,863 WCDMA base stations in Henan, which are expected to exceed 7,000 by year-end 2009. Of the 1,863 base stations, China Unicom has 787 base stations operating in Zhengzhou, the capital city of Henan province, since May 17, 2009.

- A TD-SCDMA dual-mode network data card supporting China's homegrown CMMB (China Multimedia Mobile Broadcasting) standard, jointly developed by Datang Telecom and Innofidei, has passed a network access test held by China's MIIT (Ministry of Industry and Information Technology), the chinabyte.com reported on June 9. The card, codenamed Aircard901+ is expected to hit the market soon. Aircard901+ is designed based on Datang Telecom's TD-HSDPA (TD-High Speed Downlink Packet Access) technology and is equipped with Innofidei's IF303 chipset and CMMB module, allowing users to access internet services and watch CMMB-based mobile TV programs by means of notebook PCs, according to the same source.
